They have that sibling rivalry and that influences Kory’s decision to come back and save her sister. SP: “It’s really interesting when Blackfire starts presenting Kory as the reason she’s the way she is. “Once she starts feeling what this feels like, Kory comes back in and says, ‘What are you doing?’ But like, ‘I’m taking you, let’s go.’ And then by the end, like, ‘Where are you taking me?’ She’s really confused as to what’s happening right now, her sister saved her? So I do believe she’s broken, she’s really broken, but you’re going to see what she does with it.” She’s not used to being helped, she’s not used to being saved, and so I think that Blackfire’s mind actually starts changing. She’s used to that state you find her in more than the state she leaves in. She’s used to being alone, she’s used to being in the pit, she’s used to being in trouble. In that moment her sister wasn’t there, there was nobody, she was alone, but that’s her normal state. “And so what ends up happening is the rage comes back. When Kory walks in, it’s ‘Komand’r’ it’s ‘Koriand’r,’ it’s real names. I think in the beginning, she starts that scene broken but she leaves with a different energy, right? And you see her on that cot, sleeping. Can you talk about where she is in her mind when we first see her? It almost feels like there’s a little manipulation going on even though she’s in her lowest moment.”ĭAMARIS LEWIS: “I think that’s a really great question. She’s got the whole mythology working against her, that she killed their parents and she killed Kory’s lover, but when we meet her in the episode she’s in a very different space. SARABETH POLLOCK: “I really love the dynamic between Kory and Blackfire in this episode. Titans season 3: Damaris Lewis says Blackfire is “used to being alone”

In the first half of my two-part interview with Lewis, we talk about where Blackfire is when Kory finds her and how she finally has a chance to speak her truth to her sister. Lewis’ Blackfire might have had her powers drained, but Lewis infuses her character with strength and steadfast conviction, which plays out beautifully as Anna Diop’s Kory stands over her with a scowl of derision. She eventually decides to take custody of her sister herself, hoping that she’s made the right choice. I want to see the Blackfire we all know from the comics and cartoons-fierce, scary, and villainous.Though the government is trying to protect the planet from Blackfire and her power, Kory realizes she can’t leave her sister locked up no matter how much she wants to turn her back on her. Hopefully Blackfire will remain a baddie and not have a change of heart because of her sister’s decision to save her.
#TITANS SEASON 3 BLACKFIRE FULL#
I’m looking forward to what Starfire is going to do with Blackfire-especially since she will regain her powers in full soon. I didn’t like what happened to Gar, but at least he got screen time with Starfire. Overall, the episode was great when the Titans spent time together. As a huge Batgirl fan, I am quite protective of the character, but I did like her more when she is by herself without Dick to bring her down. Of course, Barbara Gordon (Savannah Welch) steps in to help Dick by sending in a sniper to shoot Jason, but fails to get him. He has an entire team of superhumans and he decides to take on Red Hood alone. Dick is truly becoming like Batman-doing things on his own. I also have no idea what Dick was thinking, going to a cabin in the woods by himself. I’ll just accept this to be true since Scarecrow eventually admitted it.
#TITANS SEASON 3 BLACKFIRE HOW TO#
I don’t know how Dick (Brenton Thwaites) figured it out and I have no idea how to connect the two-Jason and Scarecrow-together. There is always an angle with this series.īack in Gotham, we find out that Scarecrow (Vincent Kartheiser) is the reason Jason Todd (Curran Walters) is alive. How did she get captured by the government? I’m really hoping that it’s a red herring and Blackfire wanted to be found in order to draw her sister in and gain her trust. She’s supposed to be the big bad of the season.

I am a little disappointed that Blackfire was able to be so easily captured. I don’t see how she is going to behave while with the Titans. Blackfire has a lot of hate and vengeance in her heart. I don’t know how Starfire is going to deal with Blackfire now that she is out and will regain her powers soon. Starfire is actually a decent person and probably feels guilty for abandoning Blackfire in solitude for the rest of her life.

Despite all the terrible and unforgivable things Blackfire has done, I understand why Starfire decides to help her sister. It is quite sad to see one of the deadliest villains be trapped in a cage for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, she is found captured by the government and placed in a cage that strips her of her powers. With the fourth episode titled ‘Blackfire’, we finally get to meet Starfire’s (Anna Diop) infamous and jealous sister, Blackfire (Damaris Lewis).
